The Detroit Lions running backs enjoy the “dope” intro and then split up the Bears

The Detroit Lions had a new date for player introductions ahead of their Thanksgiving matchup against the Chicago Bears.

After the offensive line was introduced, Detroit’s running back duo Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery were given a joint debut. The tandem ran out of the tunnel together, stopping and posing back to back as the crowd roared. They wore matching red and yellow soccer cleats in homage to their video game nickname “Sonic and Knuckles” after arriving at Ford Field with the mascots and customized jackets representing each character.

“It was super cool,” Montgomery said of his new launch. “I’ve never experienced anything like this before. Jahmyr is my little brother and I am very blessed to have him in my life. As a football player, but also as a person for me.”

“So it’s pretty cool to be able to share that moment and that experience with him and see how the Sonic and Knuckles thing is going.”

Gibbs said the introduction was something the running backs had been planning since they adopted the nickname “Sonic and Knuckles,” and said it was “a lot of fun” to be able to share the moment. The Lions’ running back duo entered the game as the NFL’s second backfield tandem with 10 or more touchdowns each in 11 games and continued their work on Sunday with a 23-20 victory over the Chicago Bears.
