The Detroit Lions set a ton of franchise records and remain undefeated on the road

In their final road game of the year this season, the Detroit Lions defeated the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC Championship Game rematch in Week 17 on Monday Night Football, setting a number of franchise records in the process.

The Lions (14-2) defeated the San Francisco 49ers (6-10) 40-34 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Detroit trailed 21-13 at halftime but scored on every possession in the second half before earning its 14th win of the season, a franchise record.

It was the second straight week the Lions surpassed their franchise record after earning their 13th win in Week 16 with a road win over the Chicago Bears for the first time in their 95-year history.

The team previously set a franchise record with a 12-4 victory in the NFC Central Division in 1991, which it matched last year with a 12-5 season and won its first NFC North title.

Additionally, the team finished the regular season with an undefeated road record of 8-0 and the longest road winning streak in franchise history.

It was their first home win against the 49ers since 1975.

Individual records

Kerby Joseph, who has nine interceptions so far this season, is atop the 2024 regular season interception total and is the first Lions safety to record at least nine interceptions and a pick-six since Jack Christiansen (1957).

His 16 interceptions are also the most by a Lions player in three seasons since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970.

Joseph finished the game with six tackles, two interceptions and two pass deflections.

Jake Bates, who had a viral moment stretching on the sideline between kicks, passed Jason Hanson to set a new single-season franchise record (135).
