The director explains how Gerard Butler shaped the story of Den Of Thieves 2

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera Director Christian Gudegast explains how franchise star Gerard Butler shaped the story for the upcoming sequel. The coming Den of thieves The sequel takes place directly after the events of the 2018 original, pitting Sheriff Big Nick (Butler) against Donnie Wilson (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) as the ex-Marine prepares a heist on the World Diamond Center. This time, however, Nick forces Donnie to bring him into the job so he can take down the new group of criminals from within. Similar to the first part, the sequel was written by Gudegast.

In conversation with ScreenRant About the film, Gudegast explained how he and Butler worked closely together on development Den of Thieves 2: Pantera‘s story. The director explained how easy it was to write the script because he was familiar with the actor and his character, pointing out that it was “much more calibrated” to him about the existing rate. He concluded by calling it a “wonderful process,“which shows how smoothly the script went. Check out what Gudegast had to say below:

Collaboration is fundamental to this franchise. He and I have shorthand. We work very, very closely together and he is almost like an extension of me in that sense. I write scenes, I send them to him, we play with them, get them on their feet, go over the dialogue and discover a little magic.

If you know when you’re writing which actor will play a particular role, it’s much easier than if you’re writing a specific script (where you have no idea who will end up playing the role). When you know who they are, the process changes completely. It will be much more tailored to them and much more specific. It’s kind of liberating because you know exactly what you can and can’t do and who they are. You understand the characters much better because you know who will bring them to life. It’s a super healthy, wonderful process.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is inspired by the real-life Antwerp diamond heist that took place in Belgium in the winter of 2003.

What Gudegast’s statement means for Butler’s involvement in Den Of Thieves 2

The lead actor was crucial to supporting the story of his characters

Butler’s experience in the previous film means his role in the cast of Den of Thieves 2 was already properly defined long before the film began production. Nick is clearly driven by his desire to stop Donnie once and for alleven if it’s a big risk to get involved in the latest heist. However, Gudegast’s explanation of the lead actor’s involvement in the script department shows that it was a necessary step to increase tensions as the heist progressed.
