The Dolphins will not move Shaquil Barrett off the reserve/retired list

There will be no reunion in Miami this holiday season.

After Shaquil Barrett requested reinstatement this week, the Dolphins have decided not to activate the pass rusher from the reserve/retired list, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, according to sources briefed on the situation.

The deadline to activate Barrett was Thursday at 4 p.m. ET and he will remain on the reserve/retired list for the remainder of the season.

Rapoport adds that Miami has no intention of releasing Barrett, which would allow him to play for another team.

Barrett signed with the Dolphins in free agency after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The two-time Super Bowl winner announced July 20 that he was retiring from the NFL after nine seasons, saying he was “ready to fully focus on my wife and children.”

On Tuesday, Rapoport reported that Barrett had applied for reinstatement after announcing his retirement this summer. NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported that Barrett is now ready to play and wants to play for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins denied Barrett’s request and he remains on the reserve/retired list, meaning he will miss the remainder of the season.

“Just talking to (general manager) Chris (Grier) about where the roster is and which players have earned the right to be on it, it’s just a numbers game in the NFL, so I don’t think the timing “It was absolutely so.” “Ideal,” head coach Mike McDaniel said of the decision after the Dolphins’ Thanksgiving game on Thursday.
