The Eagles are NFC East Champions!

Happy Clinchmas, Eagles fans!

For the second time in Nick Sirianni’s four years as head coach, the Eagles are NFC East champions.

Philadelphia won its 11th NFC East title on Sunday under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie. With securing the division crown and Minnesota’s victory over Green Bay, the Eagles are tied to the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs, meaning they will host the No. 7 seed (the third wild-card team in the NFC). become. on Wild Card weekend (date/time/network to be announced).

Sunday’s groundbreaking 41-7 win over the Cowboys certainly wasn’t the first time Philadelphia “won” against Dallas:

1980: The Eagles played the Cowboys in the NFC Championship Game at Veterans Stadium with a trip to Super Bowl XV on the line. Philadelphia took control of the game from the start – Wilbert Montgomery scored a 42-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage – and secured a 20-7 victory over Dallas, advancing to the Super Bowl for the first time .

2006: On Christmas Day, Jeff Garcia will be at quarterback for the Eagles. Philadelphia took command of the game in Dallas and cruised to a 23-7 victory, clinching a playoff spot and taking control of the NFC East by virtue of their head-to-head tiebreaker over the Cowboys. Dallas missed its chance to win the NFC East itself and lost any chance of a first-round bye. The following week, the Eagles clinched the NFC East title with Dallas’ loss to the Lions, just minutes after their regular season finale against the Atlanta Falcons.

2008: A fantastic day at Lincoln Financial Field. In Week 17 of the 2008 season (December 28), the Eagles and Cowboys played late Sunday afternoon, knowing that the winner would advance to the postseason as a wild-card team. The winner would clinch the sixth and final Wild Card spot in the NFC and the loser would be eliminated from playoff contention. This situation was brought about by Tampa Bay and Chicago’s losses earlier in the day – in front of all of Philadelphia – which kept the Eagles’ slim playoff hopes alive. It was a blast as the Eagles jumped out to a 27-3 halftime lead en route to a 44-6 win and a playoff spot. They would advance to the NFC Championship Game before losing in Arizona.

2013: This was once again a win-take-all game between the Eagles and Dallas at AT&T Stadium. And it went all the way to the cable. Cornerback Brandon Boykin scored in the Eagles’ favor by intercepting a pass from quarterback Kyle Orton – who was subbing for the injured Tony Romo, who had been injured the week before – that was intended for wide receiver Miles Austin with 1 minute, 43 seconds left in the game was determined.

For the rest of the NFC, here’s what the playoff picture looks like in the standings. (Note: The four division winners receive the top four seeds in the playoffs):
