FromSoftware cannot stop and will not stop. There’s more Elden Ring to come, right on the heels of this year’s mammoth Shadow of the Earthtree DLC. The next expansion, Elden Ring: Nightreignhas a slightly different flavor as it is a standalone multiplayer mode where you compete against bosses and other enemies, and you can play it sooner than you might think.

The release of Elden Ring: Nightreign was a shock. Shadow of the Earthtree contributed so much to the Soulslike game that it seemed unlikely we would see another major addition any time soon. Yet here we are, with something completely ignored by the purveyors of frustration and joy at FromSoftware.

Nightreign is a spin-off multiplayer game where you can form a party of up to three other players to take on the challenges ahead. Expect more of the usual in this regard – large monsters, knights and gods, all of whom have a particular dislike for you and whoever you have. We don’t know when it will be released yet, but the first playtest has been revealed.

Network testing for Elden Ring: Nightreign begins in February 2025 and registration opens on January 10th. Registration takes place on the official website.

Some co-op play will be made available to lucky players who join the beta so they can test out the connectivity features and see what some of these encounters look like. The first trailer for the upcoming PC game didn’t reveal much, but it does contain some intriguing clues about what’s going on.

Sharp-eyed FromSoft fans, for example, took a look at The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3. What does that mean? Damned if I know, but I’m very interested in finding out. We’ll just have to wait and see when the mode fully comes out.
