While Netflix has noted in several promotions for next year’s content that Squid Game season 3 will be released in 2025, they may have accidentally given away the exact date.

Netflix Korea briefly let a video go live that not only included the 2025 release date, but a specific date, June 27, 2025. That would be in just six months, essentially a record time for releasing a new season of a huge show, especially when it took three years to get from Season 1 to Season 2.

However, if you’ve seen Season 2 and heard anything creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said about it, you know that it’s more or less part 2 of Season 2 and not Season 3 in the more traditional sense. This is what happened:

“There’s no particular reason other than that I originally envisioned it as a single series, so both seasons two and three as a single series when I wrote it. Here, six months apart, with seven hour long episodes each? Sure, I guess I’ll give them the “Season 3” badge in this case.

Why so soon?
