The FCS championship game in Frisco is unaffected by winter weather

For some people, Monday was a great day for tailgating.

The FCS National Championship game began Monday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.

On Monday evening, temperatures flirted with freezing at Frisco’s Toyota Stadium for the FCS National Championship Game.

However, North Dakota State and Montana State fans may have a different definition of cold than North Texans.

“There’s only 13 in North Dakota. There’s nine in Fargo right now,” said North Dakota State fan Theresa Fewless. “We still went outside and took breaks along the way.”

“It’s a little wetter. Otherwise, it’s football weather for us,” Montana State fan Tracy Dufresne said. “I think if we’re all in there and all together, it’ll be good.”

Thousands flocked to the open-air stadium dressed in layers and hats.

All day long Monday, families fired up the grills to tailgate and filled the parking lots.

But in the crowd we still found fans who admitted it was cold and not what they expected on their trip to Texas.

“I thought we were warming up. I mean, we’re used to the cold,” Montana State fan Stephanie Leigh said. “So sad. I was hoping for something warm. We booked an Airbnb with a pool and were excited. But now there’s no jumping in.”

This is the last FCS championship in Frisco for a while. It will be held in Nashville next year.

Toyota Stadium is being renovated.
