The FDA sets the highest risk level due to fears of salmonella

The Food and Drug Administration has placed Costco’s egg recall at the highest level of risk above potential Salmonella Contamination.

On Friday, the FDA updated the egg recall to Class 1, meaning there is a “reasonable probability” that consumption of the eggs “will cause serious health consequences or death.”

On Nov. 27, Handsome Brook Farms voluntarily recalled 10,800 units of 24-count eggs—for a total of nearly 260,000 eggs—sold under the Kirkland Signature brand at Costco Salmonella Issue.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled eggs.

The affected eggs were sold at 25 Costco stores in five states as of November 22nd. Because the expiration date is January 5, 2025, the recalled eggs may still be in consumers’ refrigerators.

The recall involves Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs packaged in plastic cartons with UPC number 9661910680 and Julian code 327.

The FDA advises consumers to return the recalled eggs to their local Costco store for a refund or to throw them away.
