CD Projekt has shown the first trailer for The Witcher 4, the next installment in their fantasy monster battle series. It is another open-world, single-player RPG, and Ciri from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the protagonist. In fact, she’s the protagonist of an entirely new Witcher saga, although there’s a hint at the end of the footage that grumpy old Geralt might also return.

The Witcher 4 video just revealed at the Game Awards is both a showcase for the engine technology, “pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU,” and a demonstration of this type of quest You might come across something in the game that seems to be modeled after The Witcher 3.

We see Ciri take on a mission to save a girl from being sacrificed to a spider-like forest creature. “With the goal of killing the beast and saving the girl at the same time, Ciri comes into conflict with the prejudices and superstitions of the people she seeks to protect, which confronts her with a painful sorcerer’s lesson: that monsters come in all forms .” comments a press release on the official website.

The trailer also shows off some of Ciri’s tools, including sorcerer spells and a chain-hook weapon, which you’ll use to seemingly stop scurrying monsters and prepare them for your silver sword.

According to game director Sebastian Kalemba, Ciri will not only be the star of this game, but will also lead the next few Witcher games.

“We’re launching a brand new Witcher saga, this time with Ciri at the heart of the story!” he said in the press release. “It feels so good to finally be able to say these words – we’ve known for a long time that we wanted Ciri to be the protagonist of The Witcher IV; It just felt natural to us and we believe Ciri deserves it. In this game we want to explore what it means to truly become a sorcerer by following Ciri on her journey. This trailer is a taste of both and shows how dark and grounded the world of The Witcher can be.”
