It’s officially the start of Girl Scout cookie season, but it’s the end for two flavors.

The Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) announced that the “S’mores” and “Toast-Yay!” cookies will be discontinued after this year and will be retired with the “Raspberry Rally” flavor.

GSUSA is probably hoping the advance warning doesn’t trigger the online frenzy that occurred two years ago, when the limited edition raspberry cookies were more popular than expected and the boxes were resold on eBay for up to $30 each.

The S’mores were introduced in 2017 and the French toast-inspired Toast-Yay debuted in 2021. GSUSA did not disclose the reason for the resignations but updates the roster frequently.

Unfortunately, not even Girl Scout cookies are immune to inflation: The price of a box could be $7 — a $1 increase over the last two years. The organization last raised prices to $6 in 2023, citing “increasing production and material costs.” Previously, the price of the cookies increased from $4 to $5 per pack in 2015.

Prices are set by municipalities and are based on several factors. “In some cases, municipalities are faced with the difficult decision to increase prices even though prices in many areas have remained stable for several years,” a GSUSA spokesperson told CNN.

Nationwide, prices range from $4 to $7. However, some specialty products, such as the gluten-free cookie varieties, may be more expensive, “reflecting production costs,” the spokesman said.

The cookies, which also include the popular Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs, will be sold at stands and online at GSUSA starting this week Website from February 21st to April.

Cookie sales bring much-needed revenue to the financially struggling 112-year-old organization. GSUSA recently voted to increase membership prices by 160% over the next two years.

Last September, the National Council voted to increase the fee to $45 for the 2026 membership year and again to $65 in 2027. However, that is a smaller increase than the originally proposed $85 per Scout.

Membership dues are the Girl Scouts’ largest source of revenue, generating $38 million in 2023 from a total of nearly 2 million members. Although the organization supplements its contributions through charitable and licensing agreements, it loses money and forecasts an operating loss of $5.6 million in 2024.
