The hype surrounding the “Chargers vs. Texans” playoffs has Houston stars Stroud and Mixon unhappy

The Los Angeles Chargers were accused of disrupting an NFL playoff game against the Houston Texans in the wild-card round on Saturday.

While the Chargers players and coaches were always respectful leading up to the game, one former NFL head coach even went so far as to suggest that the Texans were a bye for the Chargers.

Understandably, Texans players don’t seem particularly thrilled with how the playoff matchup continues to be portrayed in the media.

Texans star running back Joe Mixon could only laugh when asked about the “bye” comments.

“I’m just here to let my helmets and shoulder pads do the talking,” Mixon said, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson. “I’m not going to comment on that.”

Texas quarterback CJ Stroud delved a little deeper into the topic, recalling discussions last year before his team beat the Cleveland Browns 45-14 in the wild-card round.

“Noise will always be there,” Stroud said, according to Wilson. “It is part of the sport and is always clearly visible in this sport. And last year they said the same thing about us when we played the Browns. I’m not saying it was last year, but we went out and did what we had to do to win. And that’s what ultimately matters in the playoffs: There are now 14 teams and the microscope is on you.

Unfortunately for the Chargers, even though the Texans said and did the right things in developing this game, they fully embraced all the excitement as quality bulletin board material.

So after a strange week of practice, Jim Harbaugh and Co. must go out on the road and score Houston’s absolute best chance against players who are over-motivated to silence the critics.
