The Jackson community sends the Aggies to the 4A state championship game

JACKSON, Ala. (WALA) – It was a championship-worthy sendoff for the Jackson High School football team as it prepares for the 4A state championship game.

“We are excited and expect to bring the blue card back to Jackson High School in Aggies,” said Betty Washington.

It will be the first time since 2011 that the Aggies will play for the state title. Since then, Jackson has reached the semifinals four times, but suffered some heartbreaking defeats that cut her season short.

“Our guys have been hurt for a lot of years so far, and in the last two or three seconds it’s like we lost them,” Lakeshia Dixon said.

But all those feelings were a thing of the past when the Aggies secured their spot in the Super 7s with a win over St. Michael last week in front of a packed crowd at Legion Field.

“I could have jumped through the TV,” said Cheryl Abston.

“Oh man, I need a team here to process these emotions. Brother, we felt really good,” Betty Washington said.

As far as the eye could see, dozens of people lined the street to cheer on the Aggies as they boarded the bus to Birmingham, while members of the fire department helped send the team off in style.

Some fans are also traveling north and have no plans to return empty-handed.

“We will win. They are so talented and we love our Aggies,” Laura Donald said.

“Go all the way to the JHS Aggies. “This is your year,” Celia Morrissette said.

Jackson will face Cherokee County in the 4A state championship game at 11 a.m. Friday morning.
