The Jets’ injuries are the recipe for reviving the Bills’ disappointing pass rush

The New York Jets are looking at their third left tackle ahead of their Week 17 visit to Highmark Stadium.

It’s certainly not ideal for the Jets, but it could be just what the Buffalo Bills’ pass rush needs to get back in order when the two division rivals meet on December 29th.

The Bills rank 25th out of 32 teams in sack percentage (.0659). Neither starter AJ Epenesa nor veteran Von Miller have individually recorded a sack in the last four weeks, as content creator Joe Marino pointed out on X.

Meanwhile, the Jets have already lost two left tackles due to season-ending injuries and their right bookend is currently busted.

First, long-time All-Pro Tyron Smith moved to injured reserve, and first-round rookie Olu Fashanu stepped in as the starting left tackle. Although Fashanu proved more than serviceable, he suffered a foot injury on December 22 against the Los Angeles Rams. That forced the Jets to dip into the depth chart and insert Max Mitchell on Aaron Rodgers’ blindside.

Mitchell, a 2022 fourth-round draft pick, has struggled to establish himself at the NFL level. He replaced Fashanu during last week’s loss, but appears to be at a physical disadvantage against top-tier edge rushers.

On the other side, grizzled veteran Morgan Moses is battling a knee injury. After back-to-back days of practice on the sidelines, Moses was upgraded to limited participation on Friday. Although it is officially questionable whether he will be allowed to play, it seems likely that he will try. Moses was on the injury report leading up to the Week 16 game against LA and played every snap.

If Moses is indeed somewhat compromised, Miller could have a chance to wreak havoc on that side. According to Miller, Miller was the Bills’ highest-graded defensive player (83.0) against New England in Week 16 Professional football focuswhich credited him with five haste.

With Mitchell and a banged-up Moses at the Jets’ tackle spots and an immobile Rodgers nursing an MCL sprain, the table is set for Buffalo’s pass rush to eat in Week 17.
