With Kraven the Hunter hitting theaters this week, director JC Chandor is already hoping to revive the Marvel character in a sequel, although he says it will depend on the success of the first film.

In an interview with Collider, Chandor revealed that his plan was always to continue the story through an adaptation of the popular 1987 comic book storyline “Kraven’s Last Hunt,” which follows the final battle between Kraven and Spider-Man .

“As crazy as it seemed and there were a lot of challenges, there was an opportunity to structure it (Kraven the Hunter) as a classic origin story, but not a hero story or a classic superhero story. “It’s essentially this setup of a villain,” the director explained.

“The last piece in it, for Aaron (Taylor-Johnson) and for me, was Kraven’s Last Hunt. If this thing works and becomes a success, that would be the end of this story. It’s obviously very tragic and…” “It’s sad that the journey there is a wild, crazy ride with a lot of fun, but the character that we want to create, if this film is a success, could realistically be with Last Hunt “end.”

Since it depends on Kraven the Hunter’s box office revenue, it’s impossible to know at the moment whether Chandor will get his wish to adapt such an iconic piece of history from Marvel Comics.

Sony’s Spider-Man universe has seen some flops in recent years like Morbius and Madame Web, but also found a fan-favorite saga in Venom 3. Will Kraven follow in Venom’s footsteps and be able to guarantee a second film?

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe, Ariana DeBose and Fred Hechinger of Gladiator 2 fame, the film is about a man whose complex relationship with his gangster father leads him down a path of brutal revenge.

In recent weeks, Chandor urged fans to give the film “a chance,” promising that it would “surprise the hell out of a lot of people.”
