The Lakers star leaves the game after rolling his ankle

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis left Los Angeles’ Christmas game against the Golden State Warriors in the first quarter after twisting his ankle. He went back to the dressing room and it is currently questionable whether he will return. Davis landed on nothing as he rolled his ankle. It looked like he simply misstepped as he turned to chase the ball as it fell off the rim.

Davis has played like an MVP contender this season, averaging 26.6 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. He’s cooled off a bit after a blistering start, but seems to be finding his rhythm again, and the Lakers as a team have benefited greatly from that.

After a season in which he played 76 games, Davis has played in 28 of LA’s 29 games this season. He’s developed a reputation around the league for not being available often, but that hasn’t been the case at all recently. Hopefully this is nothing more than a mild ankle sprain and Davis can return tonight.

Without Davis, the Lakers will likely devote more minutes to center Christian Koloko, who they signed this offseason. Koloko spent time with Toronto as a rookie and has rarely played in LA this season, but an injury to AD would give him a much larger role. Los Angeles could also opt for a smaller lineup, perhaps with Rui Hachimura or Cam Reddish at the five.

Depth isn’t the Los Angeles Lakers’ strength, so missing Davis at all times could be pretty damaging for LA.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
