The Lions secure their second straight playoff spot with a win over the Packers on Thursday night

With Dan Campbell’s squad making a lot of history in 2023 with the franchise’s first playoff trip since 2016, first playoff win since 1991 and first NFC North title, Detroit still has a lot more on its plate in the regular season To-do list.

The 11th straight win secured the Lions’ top spot in the NFC and moved them one step closer to a potential first-round bye and home-field advantage in the playoffs. Before these goals are achieved, Detroit (12-1) must also secure its second straight championship title. That hasn’t happened since 1954, when head coach Buddy Parker and Hall of Fame quarterback Bobby Layne won their third straight division title with the Lions (North Division 1952; Western Division 1953, 1954).

The Minnesota Vikings (10-2) are currently two games behind the Lions in the win column.

The Lions are now the top team in the NFC and are continuing their quest for a first-ever Super Bowl appearance. The triumph on Thursday night was the certainty that they will have a chance to make it.

The Lions next face another playoff-bound team, the Buffalo Bills, in a Dec. 15 showdown that will have postseason implications on both sides of the bracket.
