Voiceover by Strawberry Shortcake: “Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. And I have some pretty fond memories. It’s like you’re even at the big parade! But my favorite? I’m just at home in the kitchen with my mother. Growing up we sang together all the time. With all my heart, so to speak. We harmonized and she had the most beautiful voice. She gave me the courage to pursue my dreams. Even if I was scared. And I’m so grateful that she did. But over the years I have seen her lose her confidence in singing. Her stage fright got the better of her. It was heartbreaking to see. And to this day I miss hearing her voice. I would give anything to hear her sing again. Now the tables have turned and this song is for her. And if she has the chance to do the same thing on Thanksgiving, if she sees me dressed up as a delicious dessert on Thanksgiving, that would be icing on the cake.”

First, there is my oldest, who so lovingly and kindly helps cut the turkey. Then my middle child, who sets the table, my sensitive, sweet little soulmate. And this year I will celebrate with our miracle baby that I never thought possible. Who gets to eat pumpkin pie for the first time? It’s days like these when I realize how far I’ve come from the shell of a girl I once was. I’ve been through a lot in my life, been judged and ridiculed and it took a long time for me to stand here bravely. And now I try to teach all my children to love themselves from the beginning. So this performance is for them. And thank you for making me the happiest mother in the world. Because on this holiday, everything I need is right here on my table.”

But instead of rolling over and playing dead, I learned new tricks. Appendix B, my private life. I always keep moving because I’m not looking for a forever home, I’ve found one.
