The Mega Millions jackpot approached the billion dollar mark after there was no top prize winner in the last drawing.

The lottery said there were no players with tickets that matched all the numbers in Tuesday night’s drawing, increasing the jackpot to an annuitized $825 million. As a one-time cash payment it amounts to $382.2 million.

According to the lottery, the jackpot could become Mega Millions’ fourth top prize of 2024 if someone hits it before the end of the year.

The three jackpot wins recorded by Mega Millions so far this year occurred in mid-September, early June and late March. They were valued at $810 million, $552 million and $1.128 billion, respectively.

According to Mega Millions, the $1.128 billion top prize won in March and still unclaimed is the lottery’s largest of the year so far and the only one to reach ten figures so far in 2024.

The $825 million jackpot currently up for grabs would be “the largest prize ever won in December and the seventh largest in Mega Millions history” if someone matches all six numbers this month, Mega said Millions.

Drawings conducted since September, when the Mega Millions jackpot was last won, have produced a large number of lower tier lottery winners. The lottery reported that 51 people won at least $1 million in lucky charms and others received smaller amounts.

Mega Millions plans to hold its next $825 million grand prize drawing on Friday evening. The chance of hitting the nine-figure jackpot is 1 in about 302.6 million.

The other lottery, Powerball, also has a jackpot, but it is currently significantly smaller than that of Mega Millions.

The jackpot for Powerball was around $69 million before Wednesday night’s drawing. His cash value was $32.2 million according to this lottery.
