The National Weather Service in Jackson, MS is issuing severe weather warnings

According to the National Weather Service, Jackson and much of central Mississippi are at risk for severe weather Saturday evening.

Damaging winds of up to 80 miles per hour, golf ball-sized hail and tornadoes are possible in central Mississippi, including Jackson, until 8 p.m. The NWS warns the same for eastern parts of Mississippi until 1 a.m

Hattiesburg and Laurel face a similar threat from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday through Sunday.

Tornadoes were spotted near Gluckstadt, Crystal Springs and Pelahatchie. Entergy Mississippi reported more than 40,000 customers affected by power outages during the storm.

At 7:23 p.m., the NWS confirmed that “a tornado was near Pelahatchie, or 10 miles west of Morton, moving northeast at 55 mph.”

The NWS issued tornado warnings for Northeastern Yazoo County at 6:30 p.m., Northeastern Hinds County and Madison County until 7:30 p.m. Parts of Rankin County were under an advisory until 7:45 p.m

“At 6:30 p.m. CST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado occurred near Bolton, or 10 miles west of Clinton, moving northeast at 40 miles per hour,” the NWS stated.

At 6:40 p.m., a confirmed tornado was near Crystal Springs, moving northeast at 55 mph. There are no reports of damage yet. Radar confirmed the tornado.

At 6:51 p.m., the NWS confirmed that “a tornado was near Annandale or near Gluckstadt and was moving east at 45 miles per hour.”

“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter,” the NWS warned. “Mobile homes are damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles occurs. Tree damage is likely.”

The NWS urges caution in the following areas along the potential path.

Jackson, Whites, Byram and Terry around 6:45 p.m
Florence around 6:50 p.m
Richland and Monterey around 6:55 p.m
Pearl around 7:00 p.m. Flowood and Brandon around 7:05 p.m
Fannin around 7:15 p.m
Pisgah around 7:25 p.m

Previously, at 6:06 p.m., the NWS issued a tornado warning for Northwestern Hinds County and Southeastern Warren County until 6:45 p.m

“At 6:06 p.m. CST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado occurred near Newman, 8 miles southeast of Vicksburg, moving northeast at a speed of 60 miles per hour,” the NWS stated.

According to the NWS in Jackson, a tornado warning was issued for the following Mississippi counties until 6:15 p.m.: South Central Simpson County in central Mississippi, Lincoln County in south-central Mississippi, Northern Lawrence County in south-central Mississippi and Southeastern Copiah County in central Mississippi.

At 5:16 p.m., the NWS stated, “A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Summit or near Mccomb and moving northeast at 50 mph.”
