The next-generation Acura EV brings the RSX nameplate back to the performance brand’s lineup; Testing of prototypes on the road begins

Acura announced today that the premium performance brand’s next-generation electric vehicle will carry the “RSX” nameplate. Based on the Acura Performance EV Concept, the all-new Acura RSX will be the first model developed on the new Honda-developed EV platform and marks the introduction of the new proprietary ASIMO OS operating system that Honda unveiled at CES 2025 The all-electric premium SUV will also be the first electric vehicle produced at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio, with production scheduled for later this year.

Real-world development testing for the all-electric RSX begins this week, with prototype models driving around in a unique camouflage wrap designed by Acura’s global design team. Designed by the Acura design team, the camouflage accentuates the sleek, coupe-like silhouette with sophisticated patterns that mimic the light emitted through the camouflage, conveying calm, strength and inner power.

“The RSX nameplate returns to the Acura brand in our next-generation RSX with its coupe-like silhouette and truly represents a forward-thinking approach to driving enjoyment,” said Mike Langel, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales. “Our second all-electric SUV will solidify our EV credentials even as its ICE counterparts, the all-new ADX, RDX, MDX, TLX and Integra, continue to attract new buyers to the Acura brand.”

This spring, Acura will bolster its exceptional lineup of premium SUVs with the introduction of the highly anticipated 2025 Acura ADX. The all-new premium compact SUV adds a new entry-level turbocharged model to the Acura lineup, increasing Acura’s appeal as a destination brand for a new generation of buyers.

Honda EV hub
Establishing the Honda EV Hub in Ohio will provide the flexibility* to produce combustion, hybrid and battery electric vehicles on the same production line*. Honda is using the retooling of the Marysville Auto Plant, the East Liberty Auto Plant and the Anna Engine Plant to rethink its approach to vehicle production and focus on people-friendly and environmentally friendly manufacturing layouts, processes and materials that are also the highest level achieving quality, efficiency and added value for customers.

“We began producing Acura vehicles in America 30 years ago and are excited to make the Acura RSX the first electric vehicle we build at the Honda EV Hub,” said Mike Fischer, senior chief engineer and head of Honda North American BEV Project. “The creation of the Honda EV Hub represents not only the beginning of electric vehicle production, but also the complete redesign of our manufacturing approach, which will establish our global standard for electric vehicle production.”

The Honda EV Hub is less than a year away from electric vehicle production in Ohio, and extensive conversion efforts are already underway, including the installation of the first of six 6,000-ton high-pressure casting machines at the Anna Engine Plant for megacasting housing for the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU), which houses the electric vehicle battery and serves as part of the vehicle platform. The IPU housings developed are much larger than anything Honda has produced from die-cast to date, with megacasting representing a new opportunity for Honda worldwide.
