December 8, 2024 marks the day Taylor Swift ends her record-breaking Eras Tour. It lasted 22 months, spanned five continents and grossed more money than any previous tour, grossing more than $1 billion in the first year alone.

At OutsideWe wanted to celebrate the achievements of Swift’s Eras through the lens of distance traveled, which we realized must also be superlative. And to be clear, we’re not referring to the controversy surrounding her private jet. We wanted to know: How much ground has Swift — herself — covered over the course of her 149 performances?

To get an answer, we devised a nifty way to calculate how many steps she might have taken at each of her shows. We discussed three different concerts on the tour, one from the beginning, the middle and the end. Within each of the selected concerts, we looked at ten randomly selected one-minute intervals and counted the number of steps taken per minute. This allowed us to calculate their average steps per show and create a rough total number of steps for all of their performances.

An average Eras Tour concert lasts about 3.5 hours, or 210 minutes. We based our numbers on this average show length.

Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in numbers

Here we landed on Swift’s Eras tour distance.

Miles traveled

Between dancing and walking across the stage, Swift took approximately 657,090 steps throughout the duration of the Eras Tour. This corresponds to a distance traveled of 329 miles.

Race completed

It is also equivalent to approximately 12.5 regular length marathons, 6.5 50 mile ultra marathons, and 3.3 100 mile ultra marathons.

Calories burned

Taking into account the average calories burned per mile walked (i.e. 100), Swift burned about 32,900 calories – just in steps. Not to mention the other dancing, squats, twists, and guitar playing she did on stage that also burned extra calories.

Distance traveled

Let’s plot their steps on a map. Looking across the globe, Swift traveled a distance longer than Scotland or the state of Massachusetts. She completed the John Muir Trail and another 100 miles.

And she did most of it in thigh-high boots.

We suspect Swift is probably more impressed by the financial records she broke during Eras or the meaningful interactions she had with her legions of fans. But we’re not going to lie, 6.5 ultramarathons are pretty cool too.

Ryleigh Nucilli doesn’t consider herself a Swiftie, but she admits that she listens to “The Man” on repeat. When she’s not calculating the step counts of music superstars, she reads, writes and advises digital brands.
