The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 is finally here at CES 2025

After months of waiting, Nvidia has finally announced its new line of graphics cards at CES 2025, led by the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090. And while there are only a few graphics cards at the Las Vegas tech show, the rest of the line is expected to be released in the next few months .

The star of the show is obviously the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090, which succeeds the extremely powerful RTX 4090. And even if you can’t spend the money on the RTX 5090, you can snag the RTX 5070, which is said to offer the performance of an RTX 4090 for $549.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 will launch later in January for $1,999. In addition to the RTX 5090, there is the RTX 5080 for $999, the RTX 5070 Ti for $749 and the RTX 5070 for $549.

While we all kind of knew that a new graphics card was on the way, the RTX 4000 series graphics cards had one of the longest runs in a long time. Typically, new graphics cards are released about every two years and every other fall. However, Nvidia – like AMD – completely missed that mark, shipping its cards about four months later than I would have expected.

It’s likely that much of that wait was due to competition – or lack thereof. Until Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took the stage at CES, the RTX 4090 was considered the most powerful desktop graphics card on the market, with neither AMD nor Intel even coming close. Maybe that’s why it remained a $2,000 graphics card throughout its lifespan.

Of course, with the RTX 5090 getting more and more expensive, Nvidia seems to be betting that this generation will follow the same mold as the last, with this flagship card well ahead of everything else on the market. Unfortunately, this also means more expensive graphics cards all around. It’s possible that Nvidia will release an affordable 50-series graphics card in the next year or so, likely with the RTX 5060, but keep in mind that the RTX 4060 launched in June 2023 – a whopping 8 months after that RTX 4090 will be released in October 2022.

Either way, with games like “Indiana Jones” and “The Great Circle” leveraging high-end technology like full ray tracing, a graphics card like the RTX 5090 will go a long way in ensuring your gaming PC continues to perform for years to come is up to date – or at least until the next Nvidia graphics cards come onto the market.
