The once-undefeated UFC star suffers his third straight knockout in heavy UFC Tampa loss

At UFC Tampa on Saturday, 15-year veteran Michael Johnson scored one of the fiercest knockouts of the year, knocking out Ottman Azaitar in the second round of their main event bout.

Michael Johnson is considered one of the longest-tenured fighters still competing in the UFC, having picked up victories over the likes of Edson Barboza and Dustin Poirier.

Ottman Azaitar, on the other hand, wanted to make up for the unfortunate last few years after suffering the first two defeats of his career in his last two games.

The “Bulldozer” is probably best known for his antics during UFC 257 fight week, as his scheduled fight against Matt Frevola was canceled and he was suspended for violating COVID-19 protocols after a teammate brought a suitcase into his fight hotel smuggled room.

Michael Johnson brutally knocks out Ottman Azaitar in round two

Despite being 38 years old, “The Menace” still holds his own at the top of the UFC lightweight division and returned to winning ways in the preliminary round bout at UFC Tampa.

After a relatively close first round in which Johnson appeared to be headed for trouble, he began to work his way into the fight towards the end of the round.

Going into the second round, the veteran probably knew he had a growing advantage over power-puncher Azaitar the longer the fight went on.

But two minutes into the second round, Johnson landed a powerful counterattack from the right side and immediately put Azaitar to sleep, sending him worryingly facedown on the ground.

The referee couldn’t intervene quickly enough and Johnson made sure the fight ended with a few hard punches to the already completely cold 34-year-old Moroccan.

Johnson will likely be $50,000 richer after his incredible knockout, having only won four performance-based bonuses previously.

Although “The Menace” is 38 years old and has recently followed the unfortunate trend of winning one and then losing one, he has no plans to end his career.

While he didn’t want to comment much after his incredible knockout of Azaitar, he did mention a few lightweights he’d like to share the Octagon with.

“This is my promotion, I don’t care where I am on the card, I’ve been in this business for 15 years, I’ve seen it all, I’m the UFC when it comes to really fighting here,” he said in his Octagon interview.

“I’m 38 and I’m not going to stop anytime soon. I’m coming right back to the beginning, baby. I always have to get on the microphone and call a few people. I have a teammate that I wanted to highlight: Bobby Green, Drew Dober.

“I wanted to confront Michael Chandler because he’s always screaming, but he’s my guy so I’m not going to mess with him,” he continued.
