The Green Bay Packers lost their game and two key players due to injuries in Sunday’s season finale against the Chicago Bears.

Chicago rebounded with a walk-off field goal in the final minute of the game at Lambeau Field for a 24-22 victory, ending a 10-game losing streak in the final game of the season. The Packers finished the game without quarterback Jordan Love and wide receiver Christian Watson, both of whom were injured in the first half, although Love appeared to be spared a serious injury ahead of next week’s wild-card playoff round.

Chicago took an early 14-3 lead and had a chance to run out the clock late in the fourth quarter with a 21-19 lead. But with 1:52 left, DJ Moore fumbled a pass and the Packers recovered.

Green Bay then set up Brandon McManus for a go-ahead field goal attempt with 54 seconds left. McManus’ 55-yard line drive went just over the crossbar to give Green Bay a 22-21 lead.

But the Bears responded. They rushed 47 yards on their ensuing possession, setting up Cairo Santos for a game-winning field goal as time expired. Santos’ 51-yard kick went just over the crossbar, just past the left post, securing the Chicago victory.

The Bears end their 10-game losing streak with a win over their division rival and finish the season at 5-12. The Packers are 11-6 for the seventh seed in the NFC playoffs and will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round next week. The Washington Commanders secured sixth place with a win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Love suffered an elbow injury in the first half and was replaced by substitute Malik Willis. Love remained on the sideline for Green Bay’s next possession and the Packers deemed his return questionable. WillIs stayed in the game as a Packers rally from a 14-3 deficit failed. In the second half, Love could be seen warming up and throwing the ball on the sideline, but he never got back into the game.

Watson left the game in the first half with a non-contact knee injury. He was carted off the field and was ejected from the game at halftime.

The Packers entered Sunday having already secured a spot in the playoffs. But they outplayed their starters as they had a chance to improve their seeding before Washington’s win ensured they wouldn’t advance to the No. 6 seed.

After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that Love could have returned but was held back out of an abundance of caution. The outlook for Watson’s health was less promising.

“I’m not really sure about that right now,” LaFleur said of Watson’s status.

Love suffered his injury on a first-and-10 play when the Packers trailed 14-3 in the second quarter. Facing pressure in the pocket, he threw the ball to running back Josh Jacobs when he was hit. Love stood up after the hit, shaking and holding out his right hand. He pointed to his hand and trainers went onto the field to examine the injury.

Love then left the field and was replaced by Willis for Green Bay’s next play. Trainers continued to evaluate Love on the sideline before the Packers announced he had suffered an elbow injury.

Love did not return to the field as Willis continued to lead Green Bay’s offense until the end of the game.

Watson suffered his injury in front of Love’s. While running a route, he fell uninjured on the grass and immediately grabbed his right knee in pain.

Coaches tended to Watson on the field, and he eventually left the game in the back of a cart with his head in his hands.

Watson is Green Bay’s top deep threat and the Packers’ third-best receiver. He entered Sunday with 29 catches for 620 yards (21.4 yards per reception) and two touchdowns.

The Packers will open the playoffs next week against the Eagles. It’s likely they will do so without Watson and without questions about the health of their starting quarterback.
