However, as is usual with card games, the expansion that will follow the next game has been announced, and it’s still about a week until the next one comes out. As expected, The next set after Prismatic Evolutions will be Journey Togetherand the first images as well as some additional information about the expansion have been published.

PokeBeach has shared the first images of the set and detailed what trainers can expect from it, not to mention when the set will be released and a pre-release time frame. Journey Together’s biggest selling point is its owner’s cards, or trainer cards as they are called for this particular set. This means that the Pokémon on your cards are not random Pokémon you might find in the wild, but rather specific Pokémon trained by characters you know from the games and anime. The trainer’s Pokémon already confirmed to be part of Journey Together include: Iono’s ex from Bellibolt, Lillie’s ex from Clefairy and Hop’s ex from Zacian.

Unlike some previous sets that included owner/trainer Pokémon, Journey Together includes some regular, non-trainer cards. Reshiram, Zoroark and Mimikyufor example, all of whose designs have been shown before. Owner Pokémon have been around in the trading card game for over 20 years, first appearing in the Gym Heroes trading card game in 2000. Misty’s Magikarp, which could evolve into Misty’s Gyarados, was part of the Gym Challenge set that followed shortly after.

Pokemon typically releases 12 sets per game. Prismatic Evolutions brings Scarlet & Violet’s total to nine, and Journey Together brings the total to ten. The time span between games has been unusually long for Pokémon, and even though Legends: ZA releases in 2025, such spin-offs don’t tend to advance the TCG into the next era, although they often get their own cards. That could mean Scarlet & Violet are getting more than 12 sets, and it could explain why Pokémon is getting inventive with introducing trainer cards.
