Squid Game is back with Season 2 after three long years, and after completing these seven new episodes, you’re probably wondering if and when Season 3 is coming. Well, there’s two pieces of good news that I’m happy to share with you.

First, Season 3 of Squid Game is actually on the way. This renewal didn’t happen at launch, but back in August when Netflix announced that both seasons would exist and would be the final season of the series.

The second good news is that we don’t have to wait another three years to see it. Squid Game season 3 is reportedly set to release in 2025, yes, next year as seasons 2 and 3 were produced at the same time.

Here’s what creator Hwang Dong-hyuk told Deadline about the double production:

“I wrote seasons two and three at the same time, and we were in production on both at the same time, and currently we are in the post-production process for season three,” Hwang said. “When I was writing the script for the two seasons, I felt like there was a big turning point or turning point, and that was the end of the seventh episode, so I thought it was justified to have a separate season after that The. So I had the first seven episodes as season two and then the rest of season three.”

That explains why Season 2 is down from 9 to 7 episodes (even though these are all over an hour long), but considering that Season 3 is literally scheduled to come out next year, which almost never happens with a major Netflix series, This is definitely so worth it.

This is undoubtedly because Netflix doesn’t want another big gap between seasons, but also because Hwang Dong-hyuk is over Squid Game at this point, as he explained in a recent interview with Variety:

“I’m so exhausted. I’m so tired. In a way, I have to say I’m so tired of ‘Squid Game,'” Hwang said. “I’m so tired of doing something in my life, of promoting something. That’s why I’m not thinking about my next project right now. “I’m just thinking about going to a remote island and spending my own free time without calls from Netflix… Not Squid Game Island.”

I hope he can buy his own island with what Netflix should pay him. This is also a guy who said he lost teeth due to the stress while filming the first season, so yeah he deserves a break.

I would be pretty surprised if Season 3 of Squid Game actually came out next year without any delays, but it still won’t be for another three years and I’m glad the series ends with a clear ending.
