The Red Sox reportedly have “more opportunity” to land a star than the Yankees

The Red Sox have produced plenty of smoke so far this offseason, but very little fire.

It’s possible that this will change soon.

Boston has been on track to make a big free agent addition in recent weeks, but players like Juan Soto, Max Fried and Blake Snell have all found homes elsewhere. Alex Bregman is the latest name to be added to the list of superstars drawing interest from the Red Sox and, according to current speculation, could soon find a new home at Fenway Park.

“(Houston has) Isaac Paredes will play third base now if he has to,” Jon Morosi of MLB Network said Thursday. “…If you look at the landscape of potential fits for Bregman – Boston fits at second or third base, depending on how the infield is laid out.” I feel like the Red Sox are more of a possibility than that right now New York Yankees.”

ESPN’s David Schoenfield reported Tuesday that Boston is among seven teams on Bregman’s roster, along with the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros and Washington Nationals.

However, the Red Sox and Yankees were the frontrunners.

New York made the relatively big decision to trade for Cody Bellinger earlier this week, which opens up a very specific need on its roster – one that Bregman can’t fill. Morosi reported that first base is now the top priority in the Bronx, with Christian Walker the new focus.

The addition of Bellinger keeps Jazz Chisolm in the infield, minimizing the need for a second and/or third baseman.

Bregman’s best option right now? It looks like the Red Sox.
