The Red Wings’ problems in Philly continue as Laughton scores four goals

When the Detroit Red Wings visit Philadelphia, the outcome is usually predictable.

Scott Laughton scored four goals, including two no-goals, and rookie Aleksei Kolosov made 25 saves Thursday and the Flyers beat the Red Wings 4-1 at Wells Fargo Center.

The Red Wings have won just two of their last 22 games in Philadelphia (2-18-2) and have scored just two goals in their last four games there.

The Red Wings (11-14-4) are 1-4-2 in their last seven games. The Flyers (14-12-4) have a record of 6-2-2 in their last 10 games.

Ben Chiarot scored with 3:53 left in the third period to cut Detroit’s deficit to 2-1.

The Red Wings called on goaltender Cam Talbot for the extra skater in the final two minutes, but Laughton fired into an empty net to score his second career hat trick and seal the result. He added another unanswered goal with 12.5 seconds left in the game.

It’s the first four-goal game for an NHL player this season.

Talbot, returning from a lower-body injury suffered on Dec. 1, faced 34 shots and made several big saves in two periods to keep his team in the game.

Laughton opened the scoring at 13:22 of the second period with a slap shot from the slot on a breakaway. Simon Edvinsson turned the puck with a rash no-look drop pass so far that Laughton intercepted it.

Laughton made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal at 1:31 of the third period, converting a pass from Travis Konecny into a two-on-one.

Laughton scored 12 goals in 11 games for the Flyers against Detroit. In total, he scored 13 goals in 20 games against the Red Wings.

The Red Wings host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network).
