The Royal Family of Monaco’s Christmas card photo is strikingly different than last year

The Royal Family of Monaco has released their annual Christmas card!

Prince Albert, Princess Charlène and their twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella led the way and became the first royal family to release their Christmas card this festive season. The photo shows the four dressed in neutral colors and posing in a living room scene, complete with a Christmas tree, garland, candles and fireplace.

The photo was posted on the official Instagram page of the Royal Family of Monaco on December 2 with the caption: “The Princely Palace is pleased to provide you with the photo of the Princely Family greeting card.”

Princess Charlene, 46, is reportedly wearing a knitted sweater and jeans from Ralph Lauren Tatlerand the shot was taken by trusted family photographer Eric Mathon, who also took the Grimaldis’ Christmas photo last year. In contrast to this year’s more casual, homey shot, last year’s photo had a very different vibe: Prince Albert, 66, matching his 9-year-old son Prince Jacques in a tuxedo, and Princess Gabriella, also 9, dressed in a burgundy tuxedo velvet dress and Princess Charlene, who looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder dress.

The release of the Christmas card comes as the family gets into the Christmas spirit. Earlier this week, the family gathered outside the Prince’s Palace to turn on Monaco’s famous Christmas lights, which this year featured an LED reindeer among glowing Christmas trees. On Saturday November 30th, the family visited the Place du Casino where they admired the Christmas display there. Hello! reported. There the family saw an 18 meter high tree and five huge animated Christmas balls.

In addition to the upcoming holidays, twins Jacques and Gabriella are having a big week this week – they’re celebrating their tenth birthday on December 10th! Charlene recently opened up for a French magazine Gala about her twins and says her son and daughter are both “curious.”

“Gabriella is very curious,” Charlene said. “She is very fascinated by the world and life in general. She asks a lot of questions and demands a lot of attention.”

“As for Jacques, he is curious and attentive,” she added. “Rather reserved, he is very calm by nature.”
