The Royals of Monaco just released a surprisingly casual Christmas card

December has just begun, but one royal family is already getting into the holiday spirit. Today, Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco unveiled the family photo for their annual holiday greeting card, featuring the royal couple and their twin children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

“The Princely Palace is pleased to share with you the photo of the Princely Family’s greeting card,” the palace wrote in an Instagram post along with the snapshot.

As has become tradition for the Monegasque royal family, the photo shows the quartet gathered in front of an elegantly decorated Christmas tree. However, this photo also marks a notable departure from previous years. While the royals traditionally wore formal attire for their annual card, this year they took a more relaxed approach.

The family opted for cozy sweaters and pants in coordinating neutral shades of white, tan, tan and cream. Charlene wore a fawn turtleneck with espresso brown pants and boots, Albert wore a tan plaid button-down shirt with a white fisherman’s sweater, and the twins recalled their parents in an all-cream ensemble, accented by gold flats for Gabriella and a taupe crewneck sweater with dark trousers and boots for Jacques.

Compared to last year, when the family dressed up in velvet evening dresses and tuxedos, it’s a lot more relaxed – matching the minimalist, rustic decor around them. Last year, the royals also wore suits and gowns for their holiday photo, while in 2021 they sent an illustrated portrait instead of a photo after Princess Charlene struggled with health problems for a year.
