The Seattle Seahawks celebrated a number of firsts with their 6-3 victory over the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. Quarterback Geno Smith earned his first win on Thursday and Mike Macdonald secured his first winning season as a head coach in his first season. But this wasn’t your usual winning season, because that never happens with the Seahawks.

By improving to 9-7, Seattle secured a spot above .500 no matter what else happens in Week 18. It also ensured that the Seahawks became the first team in NFL history to have a winning record despite six home losses.

This year, Seattle had a shockingly poor record of 3-6 at Lumen Field. However, they have become great road warriors as they currently have a remarkable 6-1 away record against the Emerald City! The Seahawks’ success on the road is really the main reason they are where they are.

You can look at this in a few different ways: On the one hand, Seattle had a brutal home record. Minnesota, Buffalo and Green Bay have all visited Lumen Field this year and all three have combined for 36 wins.

On the other hand, it just shows how much better this Seahawks team is should have been. Yes, this is a tricky game, but you have these opponents at home! In your building, the most geographically isolated stadium in the entire league! Even if you’re the underdog, you should find a way to defend your home turf.

It also doesn’t excuse Seattle from losing home games to the San Francisco 49ers (who will likely finish in last place this year), the Los Angeles Rams, and of course… the New York Giants, who literally haven’t played a single game since their Week 5 win over the Seahawks.

For some reason, the Seahawks have been terrible at home this year. But despite this home disadvantage, the team will still finish the year with a winning record and could potentially even end up winning the division.
