“I think Tyler was the same every day,” Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith said Tuesday. “He is the absolute professional. He is once again a great person. He has never complained about football. He goes out and does his job to the best of his ability, giving us his best every single game. I think that speaks volumes to his character. Like I tell him all the time, you’re Tyler Lockett, no matter what happens, you’ll always be Tyler Lockett I think sometimes we get caught up in the fantasy and the stats and that takes away from us the little things that he did and who helped this team. Every week he goes out and gives us a chance to win, and that’s the most important thing.”

Smith shared that Lockett does more than fulfill his role for the team. He also tries to do his best to improve the situation of others on the field, which probably explains the slight decline in yards for him.

“Tyler creates plays, and not for himself,” Smith said. “He designs plays for other guys. He’s out there blocking. He blocks at the point of attack, blocks linebackers, goes out and puts his body on the line. He’s the most outgoing receiver I’ve ever played with. Everybody.” When it comes to a big game, he’s right there to make it happen. And all the things he’s done, just being himself, just being Tyler, brings everything to that offense.

Lockett not only acts selflessly for others on the field, but off the field as well.

“Just a great character; a selflessness that goes beyond measure; to be a friend. You know, a real estate agent who helps people get into houses and stuff like that. Just do everything. Tyler is such a wonderful person. All the things he’s done.” “Since I’ve been here speaks volumes about his upbringing, his character and the type of man he is,” Smith said.

Having a leader like Lockett for the Seahawks helps move the team forward, even if his role on game days isn’t as big as it once was. Whenever his number is called, he will make a play, but if not, he will do everything he can to make sure his teammate is in the best possible position.

The Seahawks and every team need players like this to be successful.
