Collider’s similarly unenthusiastic review states: “You can see the plot twists coming a mile away even when a new game is introduced – and if you don’t, the show flashes you in the face to make sure.” that you are prepared for the coming turn of events.” . Often it feels like the show is afraid its audience won’t understand what’s going on, so everything needs to be spelled out clearly.”

It continued: “At the end of the season it feels like a lot of time was wasted on repetition.”

“Just finished season 2, that was horrible, I’m crying,” one viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

They added: “All elements of the first season are GONE, there is no emotion or substance, and there was no tension or risk in all the games #SquidGame2.”

“SquidGame2 is so disappointing, what was it anyway, it’s unremarkable, so chaotic and everywhere,” complained another viewer on X, while a third said: “I haven’t waited two years for this.”

Viewers also complained that there were “too many characters” who weren’t properly introduced.

The Guardian gave a similarly tepid review, writing: “It struggles to find its purpose… It’s a shame it’s taking so long to arrive.”

The Telegraph compared the second season to “a difficult second album from a late-night pop star”.

The sleeper hit series premiered in 2021 and became the most-watched show in Netflix history with over 2 billion hours viewed.

Season 1 of the survival horror thriller followed Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and other desperate, cash-strapped people as they compete in a series of games in an attempt to win a prize of over $30 million win as they struggle to survive the brutality.

Both seasons of Squid Game are now streaming on Netflix.
