The snow is expected to impact commuter traffic Tuesday morning

Impact on the road:

  • There were no major road closures reported until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday

Tuesday, January 7th:

5:30 a.m. Update: Colorado Springs police are on accident alert late Monday evening. This means that non-injury accidents must be reported online to the City of Colorado Springs website, sometimes referred to as cold reporting.

Timing:

  • Mountains – There are currently snow showers that will become heavier as the evening progresses
  • Northern I-25 corridor – Light snow will begin around 8 p.m. on Monday
  • Southern I-25 Corridor – Snow sets in a little later on Tuesday around midnight
  • The levels – Snow will begin falling as early as 9 p.m. near Limon and will continue to sweep across the plains into the early hours of Tuesday.

Snow preparations:

Before the storm, News5 learned that Colorado Springs was not treating its roads. Still, crews are out in full force Tuesday morning, working to keep up with the snow.

School closings:

10:00 p.m. – District 49, District 20, District 2 and Pueblo County School District 70 are on a two-hour delay for Tuesday. Click here to stay updated on closures and delays across all school districts.

Monday, January 6th
Update at 8:00 p.m.: Winter weather advisories in El Paso and Pueblo County have been upgraded to a winter storm warning. This applies until Tuesday evening, 5 p.m. Heavy snow is expected, which could temporarily limit visibility. Plan for roads to be slippery Tuesday into the evening.

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect from 8:00 p.m. Monday evening through 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening

6:30 p.m. evening forecast:

Winter weather warnings begin at 8:00 p.m. tonight and continue until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. El Paso, Pueblo and parts of Fremont County are included in this advisory. Snow will begin to fall along the northern portion of the I-25 corridor and will initially become light. As we progress through the night, it will become heavier and move further south. Nighttime temperatures will be well below freezing and the roads will also fall below freezing. Anything that falls will stick easily. Once we make it into the early hours of Tuesday it will still be snowing and visibility may be limited at times.
