Some Social Security recipients will see a payment schedule change in late 2024 and early 2025.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients typically receive their payments on the first of each month. However, since January 1 is New Year’s Day and a holiday, payments will be made on December 31, 2024 instead.

Individuals who received Social Security payments before May 1997 or receive both SSI and Social Security will receive SSI on January 1 and Social Security on January 3.

SSI beneficiaries include very low-income older adults and people with disabilities. The maximum monthly payment for 2025 is $967 for an individual or $1,450 for a couple.

Change of payment date in 2025

A similar payment change will occur in late January 2025, when SSI will be paid on January 31, as the first of the month falls on a Saturday (February 1). The same change will be made for the March SSI payment, which will be paid on Friday, February 28, because March 1, 2025 falls on a Saturday.

SSI payments for April and May 2025 will be made on the first of each month, but there will be two payments in May because June 1, 2025 falls on a Sunday. Double payments will also occur in August 2025 (August 1 and August 29) as the normal payment date falls on September 1, 2025, which is Labor Day.

Two SSI payments will be made in October 2025 – October 1 and October 31 – because November 1, 2025 is a Sunday. Payment for December 2025 will be made on the regular December 1st.

Social Security payment dates

Regular Social Security payments are made at different times depending on the recipient’s date of birth. Persons born on the 1st and 10th of each month receive their salary on the second Wednesday of the month; 11th – 20th are paid on the third Wednesday; and 21-31. take place on the fourth Wednesday.
