The state opens warming centers as temperatures drop, providing shelter for residents

Temperatures are expected to drop at the weekend, meaning the need for warmth will be at its highest.

To combat this, cities across the state are opening publicly accessible warming centers.

Below is a list of cities and their thermal shelters, with the days and times they will be open (more will be added as they are announced):

Little Rock:

  • The Van will open its cold weather emergency shelter 24 hours a day at the Dunbar Community Center. The shelter is only activated when severe cold is detected.

Conway:

  • Don Owen Sports Center 10 Lower Ridge Rd, Conway, AR Mon – Sat – 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., 24 hours starting Sunday, January 5, 2025. For overnight stays, check-in must be before 9:00 p.m take place. 501-450-6186 No pets
  • McGee Center 3800 College Ave, Conway, AR Mon-Sat – 7:00am to 9:00pm Sun – 1:00pm to 6:00pm 501-513-3586 *Closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. No pets
  • Conway Emergency Shelter 1116 Gum St, Conway, AR Check-in daily – 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for overnight stays: 501-358-6676 18 and over. First come, first served.

North Little Rock:

  • North Little Rock Community Center 2700 North Willow Street Sunday, January 5 – 10, 2025 Open nightly at 6:00 p.m

Jacksonville:

  • First Presbyterian Church 1208 West Main Street Sunday, January 5 – 8, 2025 Open 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. No alcohol, no drugs, no leaving and coming back, no one intoxicated is allowed
