When Macaulay Culkin was just 10 years old, the child actor played the lead role Home alonewhich remains his most iconic and one of the best Christmas films of all time. As households everywhere watch the 1990 classic this holiday season, Culkin and co-star Daniel Stern reflected on a funny moment on the set of the comedy when Joe Pesci actually bit Culkin’s poor finger. (Seriously, you need to hear the story behind this wild situation.)

It’s hard to believe Home alone is almost 35 years old. Macaulay Culkin is currently 44 years old and even has a family of his own. (His three-year-old isn’t quite ready to watch the film yet.) Even now, however, the actor still has memories of the film, including the time Joe Pesci accidentally bit his finger on set. When it came to Pesci’s reason for doing so, the Culkin recalled:

He tried to scare me, he said, “I want to threaten this child.”

Speaking to The New York Times about the classic film, which many have probably seen 100 times over the years, Culkin recounted how Pesci’s Harry threatened to bite Kevin’s fingers off during rehearsal before unintentionally actually doing so. As the actor continued:

I have a scar. I saw his face – and I’ve never seen Joe Pesci truly scared. Because he says, “I just bit a child!”

Apparently, the actor on set had no intention of going that far and was immediately afraid that it would hurt him Home alone Star. It’s a fun tidbit from the set that Daniel Stern, who played Pesci’s accomplice Marv. The Wonderful years The narrator also recalled the situation while speaking to Entertainment Tonight. In Stern’s words:

I completely forgot about that. Joe is – he’s wonderful, I love him, he’s a dear friend, but he’s a scary guy and he’s carried everything with him. Because he was in the first movie, in the first movie we tried to be really scary from the start and then you realize we’re idiots. But there was a fear factor that triggered the drama of the matter.

It must have been pretty surreal for Macaulay Culkin to be bitten by his then Oscar-winning actor and co-star. It sounds like it was a humiliating moment for Pesci, who abandoned his “menacing” approach for fear of actually scaring the child in real life. Recalling even more of what happened, Daniel Stern said:

Yeah, I think he bit it when he bit his finger, and then he bit it, and it was like, “Oh crap, I didn’t actually mean to do that.” Joe was like, “Ahh, tut.” “I’m sorry I did that.” But only then could Pesci be seen breaking.

There are many more BTS details about this Home alonewhich include on-set antics. (Stern, for example, recalled having a real tarantula on his face while filming the holiday classic.)
