The surge in holiday mail has some taking to social media to express frustration with delivery

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – During the holiday season, the United States Postal Service delivers approximately 800 million packages. It’s not an easy task, but when tracking services go down for customers it can be a serious headache.

“I was told it was supposed to arrive on the 13th and then it just disappeared from the app.”

These are the words of Gonzales resident Stephen Callender. He says he waited and waited while his packages were stuck in processing. He’s not the only one in his area experiencing this.

“I happened to see a Facebook post online that other people were having the same issues,” Callender said. “There were a lot of people.”

In his post, Callender says his package was once delivered from Baton Rouge to Lafayette, and other residents’ responses say the same thing happened to them.

“They told me it was a truckload of packages that were going to Lafayette and were supposed to come here to Ascension,” Callender said.

When he contacted customer service, he didn’t find much help.

“The people I spoke to seemed very short and curt,” explained Callender. “They didn’t seem very interested in helping at all. They just said that you and everyone else were waiting and that you would get your package when you got it.”

We received this statement from USPS which states: “The Postal Service is committed to providing the best service possible year-round and during the extremely busy holiday season.”

They further say, “We appreciate the patience of our valued customers during our continued efforts to deliver them a successful holiday season.”

The USPS website published an article on December 12th detailing progress leading up to the holiday peak – Callender still doesn’t think it’s enough.

“The system is broken,” says Callender. “It should be for the people, but that’s not how it works.”
