Wayne Osmond, member of the famous band Osmond Brothers, has died at the age of 73.

Osmond was the second oldest member of the family performing troupe, which released both records and a popular TV cartoon series in the 1970s.

News of Osmond’s death was shared on Facebook by his daughter Amy Cook, PennLive.com reported.

“Wayne Osmond, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his loving wife and five children,” Cook wrote. “His legacy of faith, music, love and laughter has influenced the lives of many people around the world. He wants everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families last forever, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him very much.”

Osmond’s younger brother, former teen idol Donny Osmond, posted on Instagram about his brother’s death, saying that Wayne “passed away peacefully last night from a stroke.”

“Wayne brought so much light, laughter and love to everyone who knew him, especially me,” he wrote. “He was the ultimate optimist and loved by everyone.”

Wayne and Donny Osmond, along with brothers Alan, Merrill and Jay, formed the Osmond Brothers Band and later became known as the Osmonds.

They had a number of bubblegum pop hits in the 1970s, including the number one song “One Bad Apple”.

The group also had a Saturday morning cartoon series on television.

Donny Osmond was also a successful solo artist, including with his sister Marie. The two had a popular TV variety series, “Donny and Marie,” in the 1970s.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Wayne Osmond also underwent surgery for a brain tumor in 1997 and suffered another stroke in 2012, “which left him unable to play guitar.”
