According to local officials, a Tesla Cybertruck burst into flames just outside the entrance to the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning, killing one person and injuring several others.

The Clark County Fire Department confirmed it responded to a vehicle fire in the valet parking area of ​​the Trump International Hotel around 8:40 a.m. local time.

In a news conference, Clark County Fire Department Deputy Chief Thomas Touchstone said that as first responders began extinguishing the fire, they “simultaneously recognized that there were multiple individuals surrounding the vehicle with injuries.”

Touchstone said seven people were injured, two of whom were taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas.

Touchstone said officers were working to recover the body from the Cybertruck. Officials asked the public to stay away from the scene for the time being.

The cause of the fire was not initially clear.

In videos circulating online, sirens can be heard in the lobby of the Trump International Hotel while the vehicle is engulfed in flames just outside. One person said on social media that they were near the front door when the vehicle exploded and were forced to leave their luggage at the door.

FBI Las Vegas also said in a statement to NBC News that it “has personnel on site to offer assistance to our local partners who handled the initial response.”

The Trump International Hotel Las Vegas is owned by the Trump Organization and American businessman Phil Ruffin.

Loud banging noises can be heard in videos of the lobby as the fire grows larger just inside the hotel’s entrance, which has the letter “T” for Trump embossed on it.

Mary Lescano Paguada, 43, who was vacationing in Las Vegas from San Antonio, Texas to celebrate the New Year at the Trump International Hotel, told NBC News she heard an explosion early in the morning.

She wasn’t worried at first until she saw police respond to the scene.

Paguada said when she and her husband reached the lobby, they heard screaming and were told by hotel staff to get out and “not to inhale the smoke. Don’t stay.”

She said they were not allowed to return to their rooms after going downstairs in an attempt to get them to evacuate the area.

Social media posts showed smoke filling the air around the building. Other videos from nearby hotels show first responders appearing to run to the scene of the fire.

Trump appointed Musk during his second term to co-head an advisory board, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aimed at cutting federal regulations and government spending. Musk, the world’s richest person, donated $277 million to support Trump’s campaign and other Republican candidates, according to campaign finance records.
