The Texans beat the Jaguars and are 8-5 in 2024 | Big Play Breakdown

The Texans’ victory over Jacksonville gave the Texans their first win over the Jaguars since 2021.

It was also the TENTH consecutive road division win, also dating back to 2021.

It was also the ninth win in ten trips to Jacksonville (the only loss was in 2017).

Let’s take a look at the biggest of the BIG plays that earned them a 23-20 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday afternoon in Duval County.

2nd quarter – Jaguars ball

All week I thought Derek Stingley Jr. would be traveling with rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr. So on that 3rd-and-10, Thomas was the number one receiver on one side and his shadow, also known as Stingley. When Thomas was in this spot, I paid more attention to Stingley and Thomas. In this third and tenth game, Thomas was tied with Stingley at the top of the numbers distribution in press coverage. After the game, Sting explained to me how he knew what was coming. He said Thomas Jr. immediately went into a full sprint. That’s when Sting knew what was going on. Thomas sprinted to the deep post with his speed of 4.3. I’ve seen Sting in this situation countless times, so I knew he could handle his coverage quite well. It may have looked like he was beaten, but I could tell Stingley was just gauging where the ball would be thrown. QB Trevor Lawrence dropped and only had eyes for his guy. Thomas and Sting knew it. Lawrence took off and Sting grabbed the ball out of the air over a surprised Thomas and returned it 31 yards to set up Kai’mi Fairbairn’s second field goal of the first half. This was Sting’s third straight year with an interception off Trevor Lawrence – at Duval County as a rookie in 2022, last year at home and again today at Duval County.
