The title fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach has been postponed to March 1st

The WBA lightweight title fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach has been rescheduled for March 1 in Brooklyn, New York, it was announced Friday.

“Tank” Davis, one of boxing’s top stars, announced in early October that the fight would take place on December 14th in Houston. No reason was given for the postponement.

Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) of Baltimore is ESPN’s No. 8 pound-for-pound boxer (and No. 1 lightweight). He is coming off a spectacular eighth-round knockout of Frank Martin in June. The fight was Davis’ first since his 44-day sentence last summer for violating the conditions of house arrest stemming from a hit-and-run accident in November 2020.

Davis, 30, was in negotiations to face future Hall of Famer Vasiliy Lomachenko in a high-risk fight this fall. But after those talks fell through, Davis had a far less attractive fight.

Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) will move up from 130 pounds, where he is the WBA champion and ranked No. 5 by ESPN. He will be a big underdog against Davis.

Roach, from Washington, DC, won the title with a split decision victory over Hector Luis Garcia in November 2023. The 29-year-old retained his title with an eighth-round TKO over Feargal McCrory in June.
