The “U Guessed It” rapper was 32

Georgia rapper OG Maco, known for the 2014 single “U Guessed It,” has died. He was 32.

The death of the rapper, who was born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., was confirmed by his family on social media on Friday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco,” the statement said. “His life was a testament to resilience, creativity and boundless love. Through his music, passion and unwavering spirit, he touched so many lives and left a lasting impression.”

According to a Dec. 16 statement from the family, the College Park, Georgia rapper had been hospitalized since the beginning of the month. At the time, the rapper was in “critical but stable condition” for unknown reasons.

USA TODAY has reached out to OG Maco representatives for comment. TMZ was the first to report his death.

The family’s statement continued: “As we mourn this immense loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he led – one that will continue to inspire and uplift others. Maco’s influence, both as an artist and as a person, will forever remain etched in our memories.” Hearts. Today we celebrate a life that was extraordinary in every way.

“U Guessed It” earned Maco a Billboard Hot 100 hit with its remix featuring 2 Chainz. Later that year, he was signed to Atlanta-based rap label Quality Control, a label home to Quavo and Lil Baby and formerly the City Girls, Offset and Takeoff.

The following year, Maco made it into XXL’s 2015 Freshman Class, hip-hop magazine’s honor for the genre’s up-and-coming talent. Vince Staples and Fetty Wap received awards in the same year.
