On Saturday at UFC Tampa, the main card bout between undefeated Daniel Marcos and Adrian Yanez was temporarily halted following a freak series of foul calls.

The bantamweight bout between Adrian Yanez and Daniel Marcos was highlighted as one of the better fights in the UFC’s return to Tampa.

Marcos was undefeated going into the fight and was hoping to score a big win over Yanez and move closer to the top 15.

Yanez against Marcos was temporarily stopped after an insane double foul

At the start of the fight, both bouts looked to showcase their elite striking skills, with neither fighter attempting to destroy his face by attempting any type of takedown or grappling attempt.

Yanez was once ranked in the top 15 but was dropped from the rankings after two losses to Rob Font and Jonathan Martinez.

The 31-year-old returned to winning ways in his last outing against Vincius Salvador, scoring a massive first-round knockout.

Midway through the first round, referee Keith Peterson stepped in and temporarily stopped the match after the undefeated Peruvian landed two illegal punches at once.

Marcos attempted a kick to the body, but unfortunately it landed low and he followed with a low jab to the eye of Yanez.

The 31-year-old sat down against the cage and rubbed both affected areas, alerting the referee that he was caught with two illegal shots. Peterson then warned Marcos and the fight continued.

Fans react to Marcos landing two illegal shots at once

It’s fair to say that you don’t see an illegal double punch every day in MMA, and fans have had a mixed reaction to this unique moment.

“Adrian Yanez just did poorly with the combination of eye-poke and kick-to-the-balls. I’ve never seen this before,” one fan commented.

“Jon Jones sees Daniel Marcos hit Adrian Yanez in the eyes with a low blow and an eye poke at the same time and says, ‘Wait, can you do that?'” another fan commented.

After an extremely close three rounds in which both fighters achieved great success, the judges took a while to determine the fight’s score, resulting in a slight post-fight delay.

The Peruvian maintained his unbeaten record with a split decision win, moving him closer to the top 15 in the bantamweight division. During his Octagon interview, the undefeated bantamweight called out the “King of Rio,” Jose Aldo, who is currently ranked 11th in the division.
