The Vikings signed Gabriel Murphy and Calvin Munson to the Lions for Week 18

EAGAN, Minn. – The Minnesota Vikings (14-2) announced the use of standard heights for fullback Gabriel Murphy and linebacker Calvin Munson on Saturday ahead of their Week 18 visit to the Detroit Lions (14-2).

Murphy, an undrafted rookie, was promoted once before this season and played 28 defensive snaps against Atlanta as well as one special teams snap. He recorded a tackle and a quarterback hit against the Falcons.

The Vikings on Friday ruled out outside linebacker Pat Jones II, who suffered a knee injury against the Packers last week.

Munson, who turned 30 on Dec. 27, signed with Minnesota’s practice squad in October and is a first-time Viking call-up. He played in 51 games for the Giants, Dolphins and Patriots. Munson started five games for New York as a rookie in 2017 and recorded five tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.

The San Diego State product has logged 685 special teams snaps and 546 on defense in the NFL.

The winner of this game, the 272ndnd and regular season finale, wins the NFC North and is the conference’s top seed in the playoffs, which includes a first-round bye and home-field advantage in the NFC Playoffs.

The loser is the number 5 seed and must go on the road during the Wild Card round.
