Singer Sofronio Vasquez took the win in Tuesday’s season finale, giving coach Michael Bublé his first win, USA TODAY reports. The Team Bublé singer secured victory over the others in the Final Five by receiving the most votes from viewers.

Vasquez, a 32-year-old native of the Philippines, won after two performances Monday night, “Unstoppable” by Sia and “A Million Dreams” by “The Greatest Showman.”

During the finals, the final five delivered performances along with their respective coaches.

“Your mentorship is a blessing to me, my family and all the dreamers out there. “You opened so many doors,” Vasquez told Bublé shortly before his win.

What is the prize for “The Voice” winner?

By winning season 26, Vasquez earned the title of “The Voice.” He will also receive $100,000 and a recording contract, USA TODAY reports.

And that record deal is a huge deal that has led to successful music careers for several previous winners, according to NBC. This includes:

  • Cassadee Pope: Pope, another singer mentored by Shelton, was declared the winner of the third season and received a recording contract with Republic Nashville. Since then, Pope has released four albums and been nominated for numerous awards.

Who is Sofronio Vasquez?

Vasquez comes from Mindanao in the Philippines and grew up with next to nothing, including a bed and no plumbing. However, according to his NBC biography, he describes his upbringing as “happy because music was always there to bring joy to his family.”

During his blind audition of Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Going Down,” he turned all four chairs, the Enquirer reported, but chose Canadian singer-songwriter Bublé as his coach.

“I just kind of felt like Michael was perfect for me,” he told the Utica Observer-Dispatch.

Vasquez currently lives in Utica, New York and is scheduled to move to America in 2023 to pursue a music career. According to his NBC bio, he originally wanted to be a dentist.
