The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore may be heading to North Texas.

As Matt wrote yesterday, the first winter storm of the year is expected to dump rain and snow across North Texas starting Wednesday night. Even Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel takes it seriously; He plans to head into the city when he can escape icy Kansas City. This news comes courtesy of a Facebook post by KRLD meteorologist Dan Brounoff. (Meteorologist and storm chaser Reed Timmer is already here.)

Cantore’s visit to North Texas means this morning’s winter storm warning from the National Weather Service should be taken seriously. Even his superiors admit, “If Cantore is in town, that means it’s time for everyone else to leave.” (Or, more likely in this case, stay on and off the streets when possible .)

The Weather Channel says there will be between 3 and 5 inches of snow, while the NWS estimates up to 6 inches in Fort Worth. The city will hold a press conference at noon today. We will update the story below as the storm continues.
