Miami Heat received: Cameron Johnson, Buddy Hield, Jonathan Kuminga, Ziaire Williams, a 2025 first-round pick (via Golden State) and a 2027 first-round pick (via Golden State)

Miami Heat lose: Jimmy Butler, Pelle Larsson and a top-10 protected 2030 first-round pick

The sample size is too small to draw definitive conclusions, but the Miami Heat are at plus-8.1 points per 100 possessions when Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo and Nikola Jović are all on the court without Jimmy Butler.

The foundation for a younger, less volatile team has already been laid. And Miami can use any Butler trade it finds as an opportunity to simply build on it.

This deal definitely does.

Heat fans will be wary of the team giving up a No. 1 pick, but rumors around the league suggest Brooklyn wants multiple picks for Cameron Johnson. Miami might even justify redirecting one of those Golden State premieres to get the Nets on board.

The slim, 6-foot-10 Johnson is averaging 19.5 points, 3.3 three-pointers and 3.0 assists, the highest of his career, while shooting 43.6 percent from distance. Having him as a floor defender for the two-man game of Herro and Adebayo will make it significantly more difficult to defend the main action, so it would be crazy to throw Buddy Hield to the other wing.

Of course, it could all be a bit lost here. Not only does Miami get several potentially helpful veterans and a first-round pick, but they also get their top young prospect as part of this deal.

Jonathan Kuminga’s inconsistency as a shooter and defender is a common source of frustration for Warriors fans, but he is a dynamic athlete and finisher with a lot of untapped potential.

Along with him, Herro, Adebayo and Jović would keep the Heat in the race for the playoff spots for the foreseeable future.
