The Yankees’ trade proposal lands the Rangers the $10 million Gold Glove winner

The New York Yankees have been busy this offseason.

After Juan Soto raced across town to sign a historic contract with the New York Mets, the Yankees left no stone unturned.

They bolstered the starting lineup with Max Fried, added an elite piece at the back of the bullpen in closer Devin Williams and acquired a much-needed left-handed bat in a deal for Cody Bellinger.

The next step appears to be adding a first baseman to improve one of the Yankees’ least productive position groups last season.

While the Bombers have been linked to free-agent options like Pete Alonso and Christian Walker, the Yankees appear “increasingly likely to opt for a cheaper option,” according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Instead, Rosenthal named Texas Rangers slugger Nathaniel Lowe, who is expected to receive $10.7 million in arbitration in 2025, according to Spotrac, as a potential trade partner.

Lowe, a 2022 Silver Slugger and 2023 Gold Glove winner, appears to be an ideal target for the Yankees if they want to get cheaper. He may not have all that much power, as he has averaged about 20 home runs per season over the past four seasons.

However, the 29-year-old has a solid 121 OPS+ during this stretch and his 12.6% walk rate was among the best in MLB last season. Additionally, he was in the 91st percentile of Outs Above Average according to Baseball Savant.

What the Yankees would have to give up for Lowe remains unclear, but he is under the team’s control through the 2026 season, so it is an option that should be explored.
